Thanks to David for pointing out the Library of Congress' wishful cataloging of Edmund White's Caracole:

         1. Teenage boys—Psychology—Fiction

Gabriel, arguably, is the main character, but who is the other boy? Perhaps the LOC cataloguer was beguiled—as who of us hasn't been—by Herbert List's wonderful cover photo:

Thinking about it further, there may be, on the other hand, no LC category "Teenage Boy."

I haven't read Caracole, but as a librarian, I can clear this up: subject categories in cataloging records always take the plural.

is there a list of these (LOC) categories? online? And who gets to augment them? ("Ninja," e.g., must be a recent addition.)
