While reading China Mountain Zhang, I thought back on a SF book I previously read by Jeanette Winterson: The Stone Gods. I've read a few of her books (what a soupy love story Written on the Body is!) and always enjoy her delicious writing, repetitive cadence, and themes of gender ambiguity. I haven't read a lot of SF but found this a unique read.

Thanks very much, Jeff. First, sorry I couldn't attend the Aug. 1 discussion of "China Mountain Zhang," but it sounds like you and Tim enjoyed yourselves!
I'm embarrassed to admit I had no idea Winterson has ever written anything besides love stories. (I should confess that I enjoyed "Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit" more than I care to admit!)
Anyway, I don't know when I'll have a chance to read "The Stone Gods," but I am intrigued. One of these days...
Cheers, Steve
