The exact date of our group's first meeting is lost in the mists of history, but it was in May 1999. Tim Walton, our blogmaster extraordinaire, has diligently maintained the running list of the 271 (and counting) books we've read over that period (thanks!), which you'll find at the bottom of the homepage.

Lost in the mists of history the date of the first meeting is not. The Potomac Gay Men's Book Group, aka BoysnBooks first met on May 11, 1999. I sent the documentary email evidence to Tim like 9 years ago, but I guess he lost it ;-). Steve, I will send pdf's of the emails to you for safe keeping. Below is the text of the earliest email that I have.
Respectfully,

Re: Interested in your reading group
Thanks for your interest in the Potomac Gay Men's Book Group (better known as BoysNBooks). The group was created by three young gay men who like to read and wanted a chance to share our interest and literary insights with other like minded gay men. The goal of PGMBG is for interested men to gather on a regular basis to read and discuss books from a personal and community perspective. We also desire this group to be social, and we will be planning non-reading events as well. We want everyone who joins to have input into what we read and what we do socially. Our first meeting will be held Tuesday night May 11 at the Cyberstop Cafe (upstairs) beginning at 8 pm. Stuart Miller, author of Prayer Warriors, a true story about religious fundamentalism and it's effect on the gay community will be reading from and signing his book at 8:30. This will also be our first reading selection and Lambda Rising will be on site to sell copies of the book (13.95) for Stuart to sign and for us to read before our next meeting. Hope to see you on Tuesday Night! Bob
Co-Coordinator, PGMBG
I posted a new item about our history to maximize the chances this correction gets seen, but for the record, the actual date of the first meeting was May 11, 1999.
