Thanks to David for pointing out the Library of Congress' wishful cataloging of Edmund White's Caracole:
1. Teenage boys—Psychology—Fiction
Gabriel, arguably, is the main character, but who is the other boy? Perhaps the LOC cataloguer was beguiled—as who of us hasn't been—by Herbert List's wonderful cover photo:
Could they be one and the same?
ReplyDeleteThinking about it further, there may be, on the other hand, no LC category "Teenage Boy."
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Caracole, but as a librarian, I can clear this up: subject categories in cataloging records always take the plural.
ReplyDeleteis there a list of these (LOC) categories? online? And who gets to augment them? ("Ninja," e.g., must be a recent addition.)
